Worktops

Worktop

There are a wide range of worktop options available for your Gill’s kitchen. Granite, marble, quartz, solid surface, glass, solid wood and laminate can all be provided in a large range of colours and finishes. Worktops should be hard wearing and practical but they can also be used to add colour and texture or used as a feature.

There are many options to consider when it comes to choosing a kitchen worktop:

  • The first is budget – and this will influence greatly the type of material you choose.
  • The second is practically – how low maintenance do you want it to be?
  • The third is the look – what colour and texture you want, along with any design details such as sweeping curves or the latest thin edged profile.

You may want your kitchen’s worktop to complement your cabinets or you may prefer a contrasting colour – look at as many different samples as you can, and you may find something you never considered before.

Whatever material you choose, all work surfaces need to have a template.  This is where the material is cut to size to fit the cabinets below, with cut-outs for hobs and sinks and any extra lengths for a breakfast bar or overhang. Some materials can be cut on site, so you can have your worktops fitted straight away while others need to have templates and cut at the factory, which can take up to three weeks after the furniture has been installed. It’s important to keep this in mind when planning the use of your new kitchen, so don’t throw away that camping stove just yet!
